Charlton Athletic Player Of The Year Ceremony

Last night was the annual Charlton Athletic Supporters Club Player Of The Year ceremony. Myself and Chris managed to get ourselves tickets to the event which we were proud about. We both didn't know what to expect but we dressed up smart straight after work and got the train from Guildford. We arrived just in time for the start at 7pm. The function was located in the North Stand Suite which overlooks the pitch, a breathtaking view from the room.
James the drummer and his sister Lou were there so we spent most of the social parts with them. The old drummer came up to me and said I was wicked at Boro, I was dead chuffed! Nice few pints and a buffet dinner started the evening off well. Then it was the social part.
I got chatting to Lloyd Sam at the bar about the match against Blackburn and he was really friendly. Later on I went to chat to him again and he said "Has anyone ever told you that you look like Preston". He was a quality guy. All of the players were friendly and very approachable. Rurik Gislason who has just turned 18 was talking to me about what its like to be playing in England, he gave me the impression he was enjoying it and he wanted the chance to get in the squad at Old Trafford this Sunday Me and Chris went round getting autographs with Jay Bothroyd, Jerome Thomas, Marcus Bent, Kish, Hughesy, Darren Bent, Darren Ambrose (who said to me he prefers it much more down South than up North!!) Darren Randolf, Chris Powell and Stefan Andersen (I shook his hand and thanked him for Chelsea).
I had a really nice chat with Jason Euell about the club and his future and I hope he stays, he is a wicked bloke.
But then the moment we were waiting for - SHAUN BARTLETT. He was sitting next to Jon Fortune and Chris had a laughing fit and started saying what a legend he was and that he is his favourite player. I said to Bartlett that you would have to excuse Chris as he is very pissed and Bartlett laughed loads. Which set Chris off! God u would have to had been there to see it, so funny!
I went for a piss and none other than Luke Young was pissing next to me! LOL! So I chatted to him bout his injury and hopefully he will be back for this Sundays game. He was a top bloke though.
It was time for the awards. Darren Randolph got the Young Player Of The Year award, Chris Powell got the Disabled Supporters Special Award, Radostin Kishishev got the Away Fans Player Of The Year. Curbs came in to huge applause and present Darren Bent Player of the Year which was excellent. Curbs was also presented a special plaque in recognition of his service to the Club.
One funny thing happened was when Dennis Rommedahl was called up to present Goal of the Season award to Bryan Hughes (for his penalty against Chelsea), chants started of Dennis in the last minute (he won the GOTS award last year) and as he was walking to present it I shook his hand and gave him a hug! LOL! So funny! He was laughing!
I went and thanked Curbs and got a photo with him.
Prickesh the barman tried to take Chris Smirnoff Ice off of him because he didn't believe he was 18, so Lou took it and said it was hers, then gave it back to Chris straight away, what an idiot.
Had a little boogie and said our goodbyes and we made our way home. We missed the last train from Charlton so started to walk to North Greenwich tube. We saw a bus, got on it and the driver said it would be best to get DLR from Greenwich then get the tube. He let us on for free lol. So we got DLR to Heron Quays, I found a fone on the train which I am returning, then we saw we had missed the last train to London. We asked a bloke who works on the tube he said go back to North Greenwich on tube then get bus. We met 2 Italian people who were well cool - Miki and Andrea. Miki was fairly hot!!! We got on the bus at North Greenwich for free cos we just bundled past the driver. Got of at Elephant and Castle, the 2 italians went to the Ministry of Sound club, we waited for another bus and got on that for free as I pretended I was foreign. Got off at Blackfriars and waited for a train to Gatwick. Eventually got home at 0330am - such a fun night!
